Upcoming College Representative Visits

If any junior or senior is interested in any of the following colleges, you must get a pass from the counselor prior to the day of the college rep visit.   

College Visits

Juniors and seniors will be excused from school to visit a college providing arrangements are made a minimum of 3 days ahead of time with the counselor.  Juniors and seniors are allowed 2 college visits per year.  Visits are not allowed during the last week of any quarter.  The following are the steps for an approved college visit:

1) Get a blue sheet from the counselor's office, have your teachers sign it and return it to the counselor's office.

2) A call or note from a parent to the counselor's office to verify the visit.

If the following steps are not followed, the absence will be considered unexcused.

Scholarship Information

Cherokee County Cattlemen's Association Scholarship - Graduating senior must be pursuing an agricultural related field.  You must also have a background in the area of raising and working with cattle.  Applications located in the guidance office.  Due April 15, 2017.

Cherokee County Pork Producers - The applicant must be a resident of Cherokee County and you must be enrolled in a college/university at full time status, paying full time tuition to receive a scholarship payment.  You must be majoring in an area of agriculture.  Applications available in the guidance office. Due April 15, 2017.

PTA Scholarship - One time $500 scholarship for a Washington High School graduating senior planning to major in Education.  You must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Applications available in the guidance office.  Due April 17, 2017.

Pierce Green Memorial Scholarship - $1,000 scholarship awarded to a WHS graduating senior planning to attend a trade program.  This scholarship is not based on financial need.  Applications are located in the guidance office.  Due Thursday, April 20, 2017.

Johnson Family Farm Scholarship - Applicant must be a Washington High School senior planning to attend an accredited institution for ag business or an ag related field of study.  Applications are located in the guidance office.  Due April 21, 2017.

Cherokee County Pheasants Forever Les Licklider Scholarship Program - Resident of Cherokee County.  Minimum 2.5 GPA.  Other criteria and applications are located in the guidance office.  Due April 21, 2017.

Friends of Conservation ( FOC) Scholarship - $500 scholarship for a 2017 high school graduate planning to study conservation in wildlife, forestry, soil science, plant science and/or other areas of conservation.  Eligibility and essay requirements in the guidance office.  Must be postmarked by April 25, 2017.

Little Sioux Corn Processors Scholarship - High school senior that has been accepted to an accredited college, university or community college.  Applicants must be working toward a degree (major) in an occupational area of agriculture and/or agribusiness.  Please see the application to see approved areas of study.  Academic minors are not considered in evaluating eligibility.  Completed application must be turned in to the guidance office by Friday, April 28th.

WHS Class of 1965 Gives Back Scholarship - This is scholarship will be awarded to Washington High School senior that intends to go to secondary education.  It is not restricted to four year college programs.  Applications in the guidance office.  Completed applications need to be returned to the guidance office on or by April 28, 2017.

2017 Brian Pearson Memorial Scholarship - High school junior or senior for the 2016-2017 school year who have previously participated in any Iowa Games events are eligible for this scholarship. Applications available in the guidance office.  Must be received by April 30, 2017.

L.G. Everist, Inc. Scholarship Program - Must be a graduating senior with a strong interest in mechanical/technical training.  You must be willing to attend two years of a tech school.  The scholarship is for $1000 per year for two years.  Applications located in the guidance office.  Must be emailed or postmarked on or before April 30th.

Speculative Lodge No. 307 Masonic Scholarship Application.  The Lodge will award one scholarship for $400 to a Cherokee senior which is to be used for school related expenses.  This scholarship is to assist a student pursuing a post secondary education in any state at an accredited institution which provides (1) a two or four year college program, or (2) vocational training.  Applications may be found in the guidance office.  The application needs to be postmarked by April 30, 2017.

William H. & Edith M. Guest Educational Trust Scholarships - Preference given to students living in the Cherokee area who will be attending a 2-year trade or vocational program.  Applications located in the guidance office.  Completed applications must be delivered to Cook Law Firm or postmarked by May 1, 2017.

Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship for students attending the University of Iowa.  Eligibility criteria and application are in the guidance office.  Due May 1, 2017.

Cooley Leadership Scholarship for Women - Eligibility guidelines and applications may be found at waldorf.edu/cooley.  Due May 22, 2017.

Children's Cancer Connection Empowering Scholarship - Applicant must be directly affected by childhood cancer (includes individuals who currently have or have had cancer before age 18, or a sibling of that individual).  Applications with additional criteria are located in the guidance office.  Due Friday, May 26, 2017.

Aspiring Fashion Professional Scholarship for students interested in pursuing a fashion degree at an accredited post-secondary school or college.  Go to www.fashion-schools.org for details and to apply. Due June 1, 2017.

Aspiring Animation Professional Scholarship program for seniors interested in pursuing an  animation career path.  Go to www.animationcareerview.com to find eligibility information and to apply.  Due June 1,2017. 

Aspiring Business Professional Scholarship for students interested in pursuing a business degree. Go to www.onlinembareport.com to find information and apply. Due June 1, 2017.

UnityPoint Scholar Athlete of the Year - Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, participation in athletics and service to their school and community.  Application may be found at www.unitypointscholarathletes.com.  Complete and submit application to your high school principal by June 2, 2017.

Charlie Burkhart Scholarship - Scholarship winners selected on the basis of their interest and activity in golf, the potential for future contributions to the game, leadership skills/community involvement, then on their academic/professional ability and financial need.  Applications in the guidance office.  Due June 16, 2017.
