Upcoming College Representative Visits

If any junior or senior is interested in any of the following colleges, you must get a pass from the counselor prior to the day of the college rep visit.

College Visits

Juniors and seniors will be excused from school to visit a college providing arrangements are made a minimum of 3 days ahead of time with the counselor.  Juniors and seniors are allowed 2 college visits per year.  Visits are not allowed during the last week of any quarter.  The following are the steps for an approved college visit:

1) Get a blue sheet from the counselor's office, have your teachers sign it and return it to the counselor's office.

2) A call or note from a parent to the counselor's office to verify the visit.

If the following steps are not followed, the absence will be considered unexcused.


Scholarship Information




Richard Hatz Scholarship - All residents of Lyon, Sioux, Plymouth, Cherokee, and Ida counties are eligible to apply as long as they will be enrolled in an institution of higher learning during the calendar year that awards are granted and will be obtaining a degree in:  Business, Health, Nutrition, Early Education and Energy Conservation fields.  Applications available in the guidance office.  Must be received by 4:30 pm on Friday, March 24, 2017.

Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship Program: Must be a high school senior, live within 35 miles of BVRMC and pursue a health related field of educational study.   Applications located in the guidance office.  Due March 31, 2017.

ACACIA Leadership Scholarship - Applicants must be male and attend the University of Iowa.  Go to www.uiowaacacia.com/scholarship to see requirements and the application form.  Postmarked by March 30, 2017.

Siouxland Sportsmanship Scholarship - Scholarship criteria and applications in the guidance office. Due Friday, March 31, 20017.

SFM Foundation Scholarship - Scholarships provided to students whose parents were killed or seriously injured in workplace accidents while working for Minnesota, Iowa, or Wisconsin employers. Application form is available at www.sfmfoundation.com.  Due March 31, 2017.

ACACIA Leadership Scholarship @ Iowa State University - Scholarship is available to any male, graduating senior from an accredited high school who attends Iowa State University.  Preference given to students associated with the fraternity.  Demonstrated financial need is not a criteria.  Applications in the guidance office.  Completed applications must be postmarked no later than April 1st.

Cherokee Chamber Agri-Business Committee Scholarship Application - Must be a graduating senior living in Cherokee County.  Applicants must plan to work toward a degree in the agricultural field. Criteria and applications are located in the guidance office.  Due April 1, 2017. 

Cherokee Regional Medical Center John M. Comstock Scholarship - Must be a qualified student entering a human health occupation career.  This will be a financial need based scholarship as well as eligibility criteria.  Criteria and applications are located in the guidance office.  Due April 1, 2017. 

Cherokee Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship - Student must be a resident of the Cherokee Regional Medical Center area.  Scholarship is limited to studies relating to human health occupation professional career.  Applications in the guidance office or found online at www.cherokeermc.org under upcoming events.  Due April 1, 2017.

Cherokee Regional Medical Center Kenneth Hobson Memorial Scholarship - Student must be a resident of the Cherokee Regional Medical Center area.  A high school senior in good standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Must be entering human health care occupation that involves "hands on" healthcare.  ACT Score 20 or above.  Preference given to applicants with a relationship to hospital staff or a hospital volunteer of a minimum of one year prior to the application.  Applications in the guidance office or found online at www.cherokeermc.org under upcoming events.  Due April 1, 2017.  

North Star Community Credit Union Scholarship - Students may visit www.nsccu.org to print entry forms and rules.  Applications are also located in the guidance office.  Due April 1, 2017.

Carroll C. Mongan Scholarship & Loan Program - Student must be a resident of Cherokee County, Iowa for at least 10 years and be enrolled in an undergraduate course of study at least half-time with one or more years of school remaining.  Applications available in the guidance office.  Due April 1, 2017.

Cherokee County Cattlemen's Association Scholarship - Graduating senior must be pursuing an agricultural related field.  You must also have a background in the area of raising and working with cattle.  Applications located in the guidance office.  Due April 15, 2017.

Cherokee County Pork Producers - The applicant must be a resident of Cherokee County and you must be enrolled in a college/university at full time status, paying full time tuition to receive a scholarship payment.  You must be majoring in an area of agriculture.  Applications available in the guidance office. Due April 15, 2017.

Cherokee County Pheasants Forever Les Licklider Scholarship Program - Resident of Cherokee County.  Minimum 2.5 GPA.  Other criteria and applications are located in the guidance office.  Due April 21, 2017.

Pierce Green Memorial Scholarship - $1,000 scholarship awarded to a WHS graduating senior planning to attend a trade program.  This scholarship is not based on financial need.  Applications are located in the guidance office.  Due Thursday, April 20, 2017.

2017 Brian Pearson Memorial Scholarship - High school junior or senior for the 2016-2017 school year who have previously participated in any Iowa Games events are eligible for this scholarship. Applications available in the guidance office.  Must be received by April 30, 2017.

L.G. Everist, Inc. Scholarship Program - Must be a graduating senior with a strong interest in mechanical/technical training.  You must be willing to attend two years of a tech school.  The scholarship is for $1000 per year for two years.  Applications located in the guidance office.  Must be emailed or postmarked on or before April 30th.

Speculative Lodge No. 307 Masonic Scholarship Application.  The Lodge will award one scholarship for $400 to a Cherokee senior which is to be used for school related expenses.  This scholarship is to assist a student pursuing a post secondary education in any state at an accredited institution which provides (1) a two or four year college program, or (2) vocational training.  Applications may be found in the guidance office.  The application needs to be postmarked by April 30, 2017.

William H. & Edith M. Guest Educational Trust Scholarships - Preference given to students living in the Cherokee area who will be attending a 2-year trade or vocational program.  Applications located in the guidance office.  Completed applications must be delivered to Cook Law Firm or postmarked by May 1, 2017.

Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship for students attending the University of Iowa.  Eligibility criteria and application are in the guidance office.  Due May 1, 2017.

UnityPoint Scholar Athlete of the Year - Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, participation in athletics and service to their school and community.  Application may be found at www.unitypointscholarathletes.com.  Complete and submit application to your high school principal by June 2, 2017.

Cooley Leadership Scholarship for Women - Eligibility guidelines and applications may be found at waldorf.edu/cooley.  Due May 22, 2017.

Children's Cancer Connection Empowering Scholarship - Applicant must be directly affected by childhood cancer (includes individuals who currently have or have had cancer before age 18, or a sibling of that individual).  Applications with additional criteria are located in the guidance office.  Due Friday, May 26, 2017.

Aspiring Fashion Professional Scholarship for students interested in pursuing a fashion degree at an accredited post-secondary school or college.  Go to www.fashion-schools.org for details and to apply. Due June 1, 2017.

Aspiring Animation Professional Scholarship program for seniors interested in pursuing an  animation career path.  Go to www.animationcareerview.com to find eligibility information and to apply.  Due June 1,2017. 

Aspiring Business Professional Scholarship for students interested in pursuing a business degree. Go to www.onlinembareport.com to find information and apply. Due June 1, 2017.

Charlie Burkhart Scholarship - Scholarship winners selected on the basis of their interest and activity in golf, the potential for future contributions to the game, leadership skills/community involvement, then on their academic/professional ability and financial need.  Applications in the guidance office.  Due June 16, 2017.
