Special Olympics
December 14, 2018
On Thursday, November 15th Cherokee hosted their annual Special Olympics Training day for basketball and cheerleading. The attendance was down this year but the enthusiasm of the athletes and volunteers was not! We had special Olympics athletes from Cherokee school and MMC-RU. The high school girls and boys basketball teams helped volunteer. They were responsible for helping time, keep score, and coach the Special Olympics athlete as they participated in stations and game play. The cheer squad helped the athletes learn cheers, kicks and jumps. This day is one that the athletes and volunteers learn so much from and look forward to each year. Everyone involved worked together with such understanding and acceptance. It was a great day for all involved.
