5/6th Graders are Enjoying the CMS Bookclub
January 17, 2019
The CMS Book Club was the brain child of 5th and 6th grade students who wanted an outlet in school to share their love of books and reading. The Cherokee Public Library and middle school library facilitate discussion for students by hosting round table discussion on the reading while also organizing activities related to the book they are reading. For instance last semester they read “My Side of the Mountain” and had Megan Stroh from the museum teach book club members how the protagonist could hunt using archaic methods (they tried an atl-atl). There are usually 12-14 students who regularly attend book club, and all 5th and 6th graders are welcome to join. There are some funds available from the school for book club, and the library also contributes to funding. The book club meets every Tuesday at the CMS library to discuss their progress in the book and enjoy a snack.
