The Lundsgaard Legacy
The Lundsgaard Legacy
Janice Lundsgaard and Joe M. Lundsgaard visited Cherokee Elementary School to see first hand the legacy that was started by their family many years ago. In 1993, Warren, Conrad, E. Joe, and Douglas Lundsgaard donated just over 5 acres of land to the Cherokee School District just west of Doupe fields. At the time future plans for the land were unsure. This land now houses the campus of the Cherokee Middle School (dedicated in 2001), and the new Cherokee Elementary School that opened in February of 2021. The generosity of the Lundsgaard family isn’t exclusive to the school district in the community of Cherokee. E. Joe and Janice Lundsgaard also donated 15 acres of land for a satellite campus for WITCC. In 1999, E. Joe and Janice donated another 14.6 acres to the Cherokee Schools just north of the Cherokee Middle School. The impact that the Lundsgaard Family has made in our community extends even further than land donation. The late E. Joe Lundsgaard served 9 years on the Cherokee School Board from 1982 to 1991. While serving Joe went through a successful bond issue, and fundraising for the all-weather track and football complex in 1990. Janice stated “Joe always wanted to do what he could to help kids”. The Cherokee Community Schools would like to extend our sincere appreciation for the impact that their generosity still makes on our community today!
