Future Ready Day at WHS

A key goal of high school students’ education is to ensure that students are FUTURE READY -with knowledge and skills to drive and navigate their careers and lives. Cherokee CSD wants to provide this education in meaningful ways. On Monday, January 16th, Washington High School held “Future Readiness Day” for students in grades 8-12.

The WHS faculty and staff would like to thank local businesses, WHS alumni, and WHS teachers who participated as presenters and speakers, for making Future Ready day a huge success. High School students participated in seminars and activities that inspired and educated them about the many opportunities the future has to offer them, many of which can be found right here in Cherokee. Students also took part in learning about their personality styles, durable (soft) skills activities, graduation requirements, scholarship opportunities, financial information, digital citizenship, employability skills, mindfulness activities and STEM breakout sessions, just to name a few.

A giant thank you to Diane Young, Craig Orness, Amy Benson, Mark Shea, Janelle Martin, Jared Koch, Jen Burch, Kacee Christiansen, Ryan Francis, Mike Cedar, John Loughlin, Nicole Hatch, Molly Patterson, Shane Bellefy, Jana Utesch, Jakob Hummel, Alisanne Struck, Kara Nitz, Tyler Hahn, Brenda Welch, and Debbie Elperding for taking the time out of their busy schedules to join us at WHS. We are also incredibly grateful for our amazing teachers and staff at WHS who helped greet community members, lead sessions and groups of students throughout the day.

A Career Fair held in the gym where students could talk to local businesses and  universities and make other connections with various professionals. Businesses, universities and other individuals that contributed to this Future Readiness day include: North Star Credit Union, Cherokee State Bank, Corteva, Aventure, Beck Engineering, CRMC, Foundation Analytical Lab, Mental Health Institute, Iowa Works, RJ Thomas Manufacturing, National Guard, Screenbuilders, Season’s Center, Sheriff’s Dept.
