November Healthy Hero

This month’s Healthy Hero Award winner is Ava Thorson. Ava is very active in all different kinds of activities. She is a leader in the classroom and on the court or field. During Physical Education classes, she participates in all the activities and exhibits great sportsmanship. Ava excels in the regular classroom and is willing to help anyone that may need it.

Congrats to Parissa Barnes

Congratulations to Parissa Barnes for being selected from nearly 350 musician to play in the Northwest Iowa Bandmasters' Association Honor Band Festival The NWIBA honor band has been organized longer than any other district honor band festival in the state.  This was the 4th year Parissa  auditioned for this Honor Band and has been accepted all 4 years. Parissa received 1st Part 1st chair 3 out of the 4 years and was selected for All Honors Orchestra three out of the 4 years as well. 

CCSD Therapy Dogs

The Cherokee Community Schools are lucky to have two amazing therapy dogs in their district! Fletcher serves the elementary students, and is a pro at regulating students who are struggling so that they can be successful at school His handler is Amy Brunsting, the CES school counselor. Jersey serves the middle school students. She is available to students for hugs, cuddles, and petting, assisting with students who need cheering up, calming down, or regulating at school. CES Healthy Hero

Alexa Royster is the CES Healthy Hero for the month of March. Alexa is willing to try any activity and tries her best in all that we do in PE class. Alexa is very quiet and always on task. Alexa is always kind and willing to work in any group combinations. She requires no attention to stay on task and do what is right in class. Outside of school Alexa is involved in Volleyball and Softball.

Students Travel to NASA

On March 1st, five students from WHS boarded a charter bus to head to Houston, TX and compete in a Space Settlement Design Competition at NASA.  Seniors Nick Alingh, Xzavier Hyndman, Hannah Pigott, BreAnna Miller, and Kayla Hughes were accompanied by WHS Physics Teacher Mr. De Vos.  They were able to visit Galveston, walk the beach along the Gulf of Mexico, and tour Rocket Park all while down in Houston along with participating in the competition.  They all worked diligently with their respective groups to come up with a . . .

FREE Breakfast for ALL Students

Cherokee Schools to Provide Free Breakfast for All Students The Cherokee Community School District will offer free breakfast to all students for the entire 2022-23 school year. The free breakfasts are made available by the Supply Chain Assistance grant that Cara Jacobson, the district’s food services director, applied for and received.
