Special Olympics Track Team Travels to State Meet

The Special Olympics team traveled to Iowa State University in Ames for the state track and field meet. The team had a great time enjoying some of the activities provided to the athletes. It was a beautiful weekend with warm weather to have the state competition. Healthy Hero

This month’s Healthy Hero Award winner is Tensley Cronin. Tensley is active in sports, band, and choir. She has a great attitude in Physical Education and participates in all of the activities. She strives to do the best in everything that she does. She is kind to her fellow students and follows the directions in class.

May Student of the Month

Congratulations to Ally Timmerman for being chosen as the May Cherokee Chamber of Commerce Student of the Month! Ally is the daughter of Natasha and Kent Timmerman.  Ally stays busy in band, track, softball, volleyball, basketball, and 4H. Her advice to others is, "Always be kind to one another, it will always end in a good way. Don't be afraid to fail, failures can teach you good things." Her teachers . . .

May Rotary Student of the Month

Harper Benson is the May Rotary Student of the Month. Harper works very hard in everything that she does. Harper’s teachers commented, “Harper maintains a great attitude and is an excellent role model for the underclassmen.”   Harper is involved in many activities such as, Basketball, Volleyball, Track, Beach Volleyball, and AAU Basketball. This month’s Healthy Hero Award winner is Sarah Swain. Sarah is a quiet leader. She leads by example both in the regular classroom and in Physical Education. She is kind to her fellow classmates as well as the faculty and staff. She works hard and doesn’t give up no matter what the task is.

Environmental Science Learning About Mining Earth's Materials.

CWHS Students in Ms. Johnson's Environmental Science class are learning about mining Earth's materials. We used muffins as an example for the host rock and the blueberries or chocolate chips as the mined materials. Students discussed their different methods to mining by only attempting mineral recovery from the surface to preserve the muffin to eat later, or to mine the most possible materials but only left with hard to eat . . .

5/6/7 Honor Choir

Ms. Eral and Mr. Puettmann took two 5th graders, six 6th graders, and two 7th graders yesterday to the NWICDA 5-6-7 Honor Choir at Sioux Center Middle School. The students practiced with some of the best young singers from each of the schools in Northwest Iowa, sheltered in the library during a tornado warning, and then gave a fantastic concert that evening!
